Rockaltal F – Advanced Deliming Auxiliary for Leather Processing

High-Performance Deliming Agent for All Types of Leather

Rockaltal F is a specialized deliming auxiliary developed for efficient and uniform deliming of all types of leather. Suitable for use in drums, paddles, and pits, it provides controlled deliming by penetrating the pelt layer by layer, ensuring excellent grain quality and improved processing performance.

Its advanced formulation produces easily soluble calcium salts and effectively dissolves residual lime blast already present in the pelt. Rockaltal F is also highly suitable for modern short-float processing systems, making it an ideal solution for tanneries seeking greater efficiency and consistent leather quality.

Why Choose Rockaltal F?

Deliming is a crucial step in leather manufacturing that directly affects grain quality, softness, and the final appearance of the leather. Rockaltal F has been designed to provide uniform deliming while preserving the natural fiber structure of hides and skins.

Key Benefits

  • Effective standalone deliming agent for all leather types.
  • Suitable for drums, paddles, and pits.
  • Delimes the pelt gradually and uniformly.
  • Produces easily soluble calcium salts.
  • Efficiently dissolves residual lime blast.
  • Compatible with conventional and short-float processes.
  • Creates clean, flat, and tight grain.
  • Helps improve leather quality and process consistency.
  • Allows bating to continue in the same float.
  • Easy to dissolve and apply.

How Rockaltal F Works

Rockaltal F penetrates the pelt layer by layer, removing lime residues in a controlled manner. During the process, it converts lime compounds into soluble calcium salts, which can be easily washed out of the leather structure.

This controlled action helps prevent grain damage while improving the quality and uniformity of the leather.

Pelts treated with Rockaltal F exhibit:

  • Clean and flat grain.
  • Excellent grain tightness.
  • Improved softness and handle.
  • Uniform preparation for bating and tanning.
  • Better consistency in subsequent processing stages.

Applications

Rockaltal F is recommended for:

  • Bovine leather processing.
  • Sheep and lamb skins.
  • Goat leather production.
  • Wet-blue preparation.
  • Chrome tanning operations.
  • Conventional deliming systems.
  • Short-float leather processing.
  • Drum, paddle, and pit applications.

Advantages in Short-Float Processes

Modern tanneries increasingly rely on short-float technologies to reduce water consumption and improve production efficiency. Rockaltal F performs effectively under these conditions by providing:

  • Fast and uniform penetration.
  • Efficient lime removal.
  • Reduced processing time.
  • Improved operational efficiency.
  • Consistent leather quality.

Recommended Usage

To protect hides and skins and ensure uniform deliming, Rockaltal F should be added in two or three portions during the process.

Typical dosage recommendations

Leather Type

Dosage (% on pelt weight)

Cow hides

1.0–1.5%

Sheep skins

0.5–1.0%

Goat skins

After the desired degree of deliming has been achieved, bating can continue in the same float according to the standard processing procedure.

The exact dosage may vary depending on the leather type, liming conditions, and production requirements.

Example Process Guideline

Following liming and fleshing:

  • 300% water at 25°C for 15 minutes, then drain.
  • 300% water at 30°C for 15 minutes, then drain.
  • Add 100% water at 30°C.
  • Add 0.1% Rockol 642.
  • Add 0.5% Rockaltal F and run for 30 minutes.
  • Add 50% water at 40°C.
  • Add the remaining quantity of Rockaltal F and process for 30–60 minutes.
  • Continue with bating and subsequent leather operations.

Processing conditions may be adjusted according to the tannery's requirements.

Storage Conditions

Store Rockaltal F in tightly sealed containers between 5°C and 25°C.

For optimum performance:

  • Protect from moisture and humidity.
  • Avoid freezing.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Reseal packaging after use.
